About you

The Data Engineer is a new role to support the transformation of the SelectScience technology stack. You will have experience designing, coding and migrating legacy databases to a modern reporting architecture. Your main role will be to optimize the data created and collected and help SelectScience staff connect with their scientific customer base, developing data algorithms and infrastructures that make the data easier to analyze. The Data Engineer will support and understand existing systems in order to enable a transition to a new architecture.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Transform, clean, and concatenate disparate datasets
  • Manage and optimise databases and Extraction Transform Load (ETL) pipelines
  • Work with partners to optimise performance and troubleshoot issues
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain key mapping data for use across many reports/tools
  • Quality check a variety of datasets to ensure utmost accuracy

Additionally, responsibilities required to transition to a new architecture include:

  • Design, develop, and test data pipeline infrastructures and database systems
  • Build and test algorithms and predictive models according to business requirements
  • Ensure that all data infrastructures and processes meet industry standards
  • Utilize cutting edge data engineering technologies and software
  • Identify elements of the data collection and analytic processes that need improvement and improve
  • Collaborate with developers, data analysts and business executives to improve data models
  • Implement systems to monitor data quality for optimized accuracy and clarity
  • Utilise data from a wide variety of sources

 

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in designing, coding and migrating legacy databases to modern reporting architecture
  • Hands-on data engineering skills, data lakes and data marts, Azura, AWS or Google cloud platform and MS SQL data tooling
  • Strong knowledge of Python, API’s, Airflow
  • General understanding of ETL Process
  • Highly numerical with strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrable experience with legacy tools including Excel
  • Must be able to produce proof of right to work in the UK by the start of employment
